JOIN THE JOY!!!  FALL SEASON BEGINS WITH OPEN REHEARSALS IN OCTOBER!

Shir Joy Chorus is excited to begin its fall season with two open rehearsals - one on Monday, October 8th and the second on Sunday, October 14th, both at 7:00 pm.  This is your chance to enjoy an evening of singing or observing the group.  Prospective members will get to meet our Director, Nan Gibbons, our Board members, and other members of the chorus, and see what rehearsals are all about.  This season’s rehearsals will culminate with our Winter Concert on Saturday, February 9th (snow date, February 10th)..

As an added bonus, those who attend the first open rehearsal on October 8th are invited to be our guests for dinner at 6:00 pm.  The chorus is organizing a potluck dinner. Newcomers need not bring anything - the vegetarian dinner is on us! Here is a sampling from our Spring Annual Meeting potluck:

SPRING 2018 CONCERT

The chorus’s spring concert, “Songs of Gratitude and Resilience,” took place on June 10th.  The program included clarinet solos by Karen Rothman, a violin solo by Elizabeth Anderson, and piano and guitar accompaniment by Lisa Marcus-Jones, who also led the chorus in a wonderful rendition of “Adon Olam.”   The chamber group performed a Renaissance piece by Solomon Rossi, as well as a beautiful Israeli folk song, and the full chorus's selections included a rollicking Hassidic piece, "Mizmor L'David” as well as an oldies pop version of “Lo Yisa Goy.”  Also featured were a beautiful Yiddish lullaby by a sextet, and a brand new hauntingly beautiful work, "Luminescent Indigo," composed by the group's director, Nan A. Kaipainen Gibbons. The audience sing-along was a chant, “All Love: Kulam Ahuvim” composed by Shefa Gold, and it was pleasing to hear so many participating.

The expanded raffle offerings were a big hit, and included flowers, a day pass from a rock climbing gym, two original works of art, and a  spa basket. The ever-popular bake sale took place on the intermission.

In case you missed the concert, you can now view it on Westborough Cable TV’s website.  Here is the link:

About Shir Joy

Shir Joy Chorus is an adult community chorus, dedicated to learning, sharing, and performing Jewish music from the rich and varied Judaic cultures of Israel and the Jewish Diaspora. Although many temples & synagogues have choruses which sing on the holidays, we are the only year-round transdenominational Jewish chorus in Central Massachusetts. The Chorus performs music in English, Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino, and other languages.  Founded in 2011, it is an independent nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, funded by the Jewish Federation of Central Massachusetts, the Westborough Cultural Council (a member of the Massachusetts Cultural Council), and private supporters. The chorus is non-auditioned and is open to all people regardless of ethnicity or religious background.

Shir Joy is a musical organization dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation of the breadth and beauty of Jewish culture through performances and related activities. In addition to our two annual concerts at Congregation B’nai Shalom in Westborough, the Chorus performs at other events in Worcester county, including fundraisers for the Pastoral Counseling Centers of Central Massachusetts.
